Pet-Friendly Restaurants in Athens

Athens, Georgia is home to many lively and delicious restaurants serving all different categories of foods. Take a walk downtown and you will pass by countless eclectic diners, coffee shops, gourmet eateries, and bars.  What is even better is that 65 of these restaurants and bars allow dogs to eat with you! You never have to worry about leaving your dog at home with so many pet-friendly restaurants right here in Athens.

If you are craving a scrumptious breakfast and want your dog to come along, there are several restaurants that provide just that for you! Mama’s Boy, Big City Bread, The Grit, and Zombie Doughnuts all have outdoor seating where you can grab a bite to eat with your pet. Mama’s Boy is known for its large portions, fresh ingredients, and biscuits. You cannot go wrong with any of the items on its menu -- my personal favorite is the Mill Town Breakfast Plate. Big City Bread serves gourmet omelets, biscuit sandwiches, french toast, and egg specialities.  It provides a lot of outdoor seating with neat hanging lights above the tables. The Grit is a vegetarian restaurant that specializes in just about every breakfast food you can imagine, minus the meat, and Zombie Doughnuts is a build-your-own doughnut and coffee shop perfect for a quick sweet treat in the morning. You can also find great brunches at these restaurants, along with at South Kitchen + Bar and Trappeze, which also accomodate for dogs.

When you are wanting to enjoy a nice, sunny afternoon and grab some lunch in downtown Athens with your pup, be sure to check out Ted’s Most Best, Clocked, and the National. Ted’s Most Best offers lots of outdoor seating and serves Italian favorites such as pizza, meatballs, calzones, pasta, and subs. Clocked only uses organic and all natural ingredients, and it specializes in burgers, sandwiches, fries, salads, and milkshakes. The National serves an assortment of Mediterranian dishes and tapas inspired by European cafes and bars.

A brisk evening in Athens with your dog always sounds like a good idea. A few popular pet-friendly restaurants for dinner include South Kitchen + Bar, Depalma’s Italian Cafe, Porterhouse Grill, and Mellow Mushroom. South Kitchen + Bar specializes in southern cuisine offering an assortment of comfort food staples such as fried chicken, low country shrimp and grits, grilled pork chops, and Rondenbach braised pork BBQ. Depalma’s Italian Cafe serves gourmet pasta dishes, pizza, and calzones. Porterhouse Grill specializes in steak and surf and turf dishes, and Mellow Mushroom is known for their great pizzas and subs.

If you are wanting to grab a sweet treat after dinner, there are places that you and your dog can go! Ben and Jerry’s, Dairy Queen, and Menchie’s Frozen Yogurt all can satisfy your sugar craving. If you want to grab a drink downtown after work and bring your puppy, you can go to Terrapin Beer Company, Blue Sky Bar, Blind Pig Tavern, and Rook & Pawn.

With so many options, you will always be able to find a place for you and your dog to go eat!
