Off the coast of the Cannes, France, you will find the clear blue water of the Mediterranean, breathtaking views of French Riviera, and if you happen upon Cannes, France in the middle of June, you will find the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity. This year’s event marks the 64th annual Cannes Lions Festival, where the best of the advertising and marketing industry come together to share wisdom and a glass of rosé.
One of the things that stood out to me the most at the festival were the incredible views. Everywhere you turned was another amazing view. Whether it be the delicious and more importantly, free, food they offered us at places like CNN Beach, Facebook Beach or Google Beach, or views from the top floor of the Hotel Martinez, Cannes was full of stunning views.
As I sat in the Lumiere Theater, I had views of famous people like Queen Latifah, Katie Couric, Conan O’Brien and Shaq, just to name a few. Queen Latifah and Katie Couric used their platform to discuss important issues like how to be an agent of change to create a more balanced world and be a force for equality in all aspects. Conan and Shaq showed how humor can be a powerful advertising medium while making the crowd erupt in laughter. There were also others, like the marketing director of Patagonia, who took you on a journey using beautiful views to explain the heart behind the company and its focus on environmental change.
I think my favorite view at the festival, however, was the award show, where people get credit for the amazing work they have created. The views of their faces full of pride in their work and humility in the hearts, excited to be awarded a Gold Lion or Grand Prix Award. I was lucky enough to attend award ceremonies and walk the red carpet (another awesome view) and congratulate these winners.
And that’s a wrap for this year, Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity. I hope to see you again someday, maybe on stage sharing my passion for creativity and my own success and failure, or even, receiving a Gold Lion for work I will create.
